A few pictures

I have been really bad about putting pictures up here lately.  I have been bad in taking pictures lately too.  I will do better.

A few weeks ago we went to a near by beach to play one afternoon.  There are so many great lakes around us!  Granted I am terrified of lakes and all bodies of water, but the beach part is so great to play on.

I love this picture of Greg!  He is such a good daddy!
This reminded me of the poem "Footprints."  I thought it was very fitting for our lives as of late.
Everything is a drum stick to Deagan.

Having soo much fun with those scoops!
He loves the sand and would have played in it all day if we would have let him.
Just being cute.

Happy Father's Day!!!

Happy Father's Day to all the fathers in my life; my dad, my father-in-law, and my wonderful husband Greg!  I am grateful for the role of fathers in the home.

Thank you Dad for the love and support you have given me over the years.  I have so many fun memories growing up of us together that I will cherish forever!

Thank you Dale for the example that you have set for Greg and for the love and kindness you have given us.  Greg is a wonderful father because of the kind of father that you were to him.  Thank you!

Thank you Greg for being the best dad in the world to Deagan!  I love seeing you and Deagan together.  I know that life is crazy and overwhelming at times, and you are what keeps our family together.  Thank you for being the person that you are! I love you so much!

Another Miracle

Yesterday afternoon/evening Greg was gone getting the car fixed, teaching with the missionaries; you know, the normal stuff.  The weather was pretty blah. It rained off and on and everything was muddy.  Playing outside with Deagan in the mud just wasn't a very appealing thought to me.  It was around 5 pm and Greg had just left again to go teach an investigator who only spoke spanish with the missionaries.  We had just eaten and I found myself wondering what I could do to keep us entertained for the duration of the evening.  It was around this time that I walked past our basement door and noticed a very odd noise coming from our basement. We have a dehumidifier that runs downstairs which makes a constant noise, but this noise I was hearing now was new to me.  I opened the door and saw that the floor was shiny, and it was moving.  "That's odd." I thought but nothing really registered what was going yet in my mind.  I walked down the stairs and stepped on the floor and found my foot buried in water.  I now understood why the floor was shiny and why it seemed to move; OUR ENTIRE BASEMENT WAS UNDER WATER!

At first I was horrified because I had NO idea how to take care of something like this, but then those hidden emergency skills that I guess I didn't know I had came out and I stepped into action.  I grabbed Deagan from upstairs and my first mission was to determine where the water was coming from.  The same time as I was doing this I called Greg and was secretly hoping that he would speed home and take care of this so I wouldn't have to.  Unfortunately, I was stuck on my own.

I found the leak which was from a tube that was connected to my washing machine.  I had just run a cycle and apparently it must have been a very violent one because during the process the cold water pipe burst open and sprayed water out everywhere well after the washing machine was done.  At this time I found myself very grateful that I worked at University Village and knew that there was a valve I could turn off to get the water to turn off.  (Before I worked there, I honestly had no idea there was such a thing. Lame right?)  So I got the water turned off and then just kind of stood in the water to examine the mess.  Water was everywhere.  I had no idea how long the water was running like this, but long enough to make a mini pool.

Greg was still on the line and was telling me to get everything off the ground that was valuable which was really only his stuff he kept down there like his drums, guitars, speakers, etc.  It was at this time that I realized a miracle had taken place.  Every inch of the basement floor was wet, except the corner where all of his stuff was.  Wow!

Maintenance came from our complex, got all the water out with a shop vac, repaired the tube, and left it like there was never a problem.  As they were doing that though I was looking through the basement just to make sure that nothing else was left behind that could get water damage.  Nothing was.

My mind went back to before we left Rexburg and when we were packing for our move.  I have a ton of boxes full of things I don't want to forget or lose.  Such as the blindfold Greg used when he proposed to me, letters from my sisters, pictures from when I was growing up, etc.  I contemplated putting all of those things in a big cardboard box to store, but I instead to store all that stuff in tubberware just in case.  That tubberware was surrounded by water.

I know that to others this might be small and insignificant, but to me this experience has reminded me just how mindful the Lord is of me and my family.  We are constantly being watched over, and for that I am so grateful!  What started out as a disaster in my mind turned into an experience that has made my testimony grow once more.

A big accomplishment!

I know that this is only a big deal to me, but I wanted to make sure I wrote this down.  Last night was the first night in 21 months and 3 days that Deagan has not nursed at night.  It was a VERY rough night with lots of tears from our young man, but we did it!  I am just very excited about this!! Yay!

I am pretty sure I already mentioned this...

...but I really don't like nap time right now.   I don't know how to get Deagan down for a nap without him nursing. I nursed him for a long time, so he has gotten use to that big time.  I am winging him because I want to expand our family and because he is almost 2!  What do all of you moms out there do to help a high energy toddler calm down for naps?

A glimpse into Heaven...

This morning we went to Palmyra again so I could go to the temple.  Today while I was in the temple, Greg took Deagan to the Hill Cumorah visitor's center.  We have been to this before from when my mom came to visit a few weeks ago, and Deagan remembers the statue of Jesus that is in the visitor's center very well.  At home he calls it "Big Jesus." If you ask him, "Deagan, do you love Jesus?" He nods his head very big with a huge grin on his face.  "Deagan, do you want to see Jesus?" An even bigger grin appears. I wasn't there when this happened, but Greg told me that Deagan and him had a really spiritual experience while being there at the visitor's center looking at the statue.  When you're in the room where the statue is, they play a recording and it is suppose to be the Savior talking.  It is very moving.  Deagan is not one to sit still for anything, but apparently Deagan was so entranced with it today.  Greg said that the spirit was so strong and he knew that Deagan knew the words that were being said about the Savior.
Since Greg told me this story, I have reflected a lot of it.  I have such a strong testimony of my Savior.  I can see into Heaven when I am around Deagan. He has such a sweet spirit, and I get a glimpse of the Savior's love for me when I love my sweet son.  Little children are so special because they are so pure!  How blessed we are!

The naughty three letter word...

Nap

Deagan has never been a very good napper, until we moved here.  I was thrilled that our little man was sleeping 1 hr, 2hrs, and even sometimes 3!  However, that stage has seemed to pass and now we are at the point where naps are now a very dreaded time of day.  Deagan has developed a couple tricks up his sleeve which entail telling us he wants to eat, even if he just got done eating lunch, asking for the other parent who is not in the room and once that parent is in the room asking for the one that just left.  I have really been proud of myself lately for my ability to stay patient, until today.  I think we both hate naps right now.

Taking laundry to a new level

I have never minded doing laundry.  At times I enjoy it.  But since my recent discovery of this laundry soap, my level of excitement towards doing laundry has risen to a new level. I have never smelt laundry soap that smells so wonderful! Lame I know, but little things like this excite me.
