Post overload!!!

Sorry for the countless number of posts that I put on here tonight. I was really behind!! The new post begin at "Graduation" so you might have to scroll WAY down! We hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!!

Christmas!!

What a wonderful Christmas we had! What a wonderful time of year to celebrate the birth of the Savior! I love spending this time with family. Thanks to my family for making this year so special!

I loved watching my dad and Deagan interact while we were visiting. My dad was so sweet with him that it just melted my heart! My dad was always willing to play with Deagan, to take him on walks, read to him, or just do whatever with him. It was so sweet!

Deagan had so much fun at my parents house! My family has two cats and two dogs who he fell in love with while we were there. (As long as they didn't come near him.) He warmed up to the cats as our trip went on, but he was never really comfortable around the dogs. He also loved as the different places he could explore in the house. And sadly, he managed to find a vacuum and the attachments soon became a favorite toy as you will notice in all of these pictures.

Visiting my Grandpa

My grandpa on my dad's side has been in a nursing home for a couple of months now. Since we don't live very close to home, I have not been able to see him as much as I would like. Over the break, my family went to visit him!

We made a sign for the staff who take care of him. He really has been blessed with very good nurses!

My mom played Christmas music and we caroled around the nursing home. Most of the people really liked having the music, but some people were definitely not happy about it!

This is my grandpa listening as my mom plays some Christmas tunes. It is sad for me to see my grandpa in a nursing home because I know that he is sad that he can no longer live on his own.

Deagan wandered the halls while we were there. There was so much room to run and play!

Akin Christmas Party

My grandparent on my dad's side started a tradition of having a family Christmas party 56 years ago. The party is always held before Christmas and everyone on my dad's side of the family that can meets at my grandparents house. I have so many fond memories of this tradition from when I was growing up. It is something that I have always looked forward to, so I was excited to bring my little family to the party this year. (This is is the first Christmas since we have been married that we have spend Christmas in Wyoming, so Greg has never been to one of these shindigs.) It was fun to see family that I hardly ever see and to celebrate this special time of year. It was a bitter sweet time though because my grandpa was not able to attend since he is now in a nursing home. I always remember him sitting in his reclining chair sleeping as we opened presents, and I really missed having him there. There was definitely a void there since he was not there.

An early Christmas

We spent Christmas with my family in Wyoming this year. Before we left, we decided that we would have our Christmas in Rexburg so we didn't have to haul all of our gifts to Wyoming. This is our "Christmas Morning."

He was so excited all morning! It was so fun to see!

After we opened our gifts, we ate a traditional breakfast of green waffles. When I was growing up, we would always have pancakes or waffles Christmas morning that were either red or green. I loved that tradition, so I decided to carry it on this year. After our celebration, we packed up and left for Wyoming to spend Christmas with my family!!

Graduation

I know that this is way late, but I wanted to make sure I blogged about this. Greg graduated from BYU-Idaho on December 12, 2008 with his bachelor's in Political Science. What a glorious day that was! President Uchtdorf from the 1st Presidency was the speaker this year, and what a blessing it was to hear him speak. We attended a banquet where he spoke and we were only a few feet away from him! You can tell he is a man called of God because he brought a tremendous spirit with him! It was fun to have family in town to celebrate this special day with us! Now it is my turn to graduate in April!

Freedom!

Deagan loves his bath and loves that he can run around with no clothes after his bath while mom and dad desperately try to get a diaper on him. On this night, he decided he would rather ride his horse then get dressed. Fair enough. I would choose the opposite though.

"I am so cold, but I don't want to get dressed!"

I was tired this afternoon, and I needed to nurse Kayden. I felt too tired to go pick up Kayden from where he was, so jokingly I asked Deagan if he would go change Kayden's diaper, nurse him, and then put him down for a nap.

He took it seriously, and said, "I have little boobies mommy! But do I have milk?"

Me: "No you don't have milk. I was just kidding."

Deagan: "But do I have water in my boobies?"

Needless to say, he did not follow through with what I said:)

January 6, 2009

*We went to Olive Garden for dinner tonight, and after the waitress brought us our breadsticks my son yelled after her, "Thank you lady!"

*My oldest loves to bring toys with him to bed. Tonight he had a couple of toy dinosaurs that he got for Christmas. The rule we have of bringing toys in bed is that the toys can't play, they have to sleep too. Tonight, he was having a hard time just letting his toys sleep, so I kept asking him to stop playing with the dinosaurs so he could go to sleep. He was getting really frustrated at me because of this and towards the end he started saying, "I am very mad at you!" It was so hard for me not to laugh at that.

He has done this for a while now, but whenever we are in the car he will ask, "Where are we going?" in a annoyed kind of voice. Later on he will ask really sadly, "Where did my house go?"

October 29, 2009

My oldest woke up really early this morning, and was whiny and impossible to please. At this point, I am dreading the day ahead and it is only 7 a.m. My oldest was sitting on his play table coloring and playing with his paint box (that was empty). He dropped the paint box, and began whining for me to pick it up. The conversation went something like this:

D: "Pick it up Mommy!"

Me: "It is right by you, you pick it up."

**Pause from Deagan**

D: "Michelle! Pick it up!"

I couldn't help but smile when he called me Michelle. Maybe this day will be better then I am expecting.

I think that wanting your privacy while going potty is a natural instinct that we are all born with and that develops over time. D is beginning to show signs that this privacy is a very important time when going to the bathroom. This afternoon I was making dinner and came in to the living room to check on him. As I walked into the room, he held out his hand and yelled, "No Mom! Go back!" I can always tell when he is done by him allowing me to stay in the same room with him.

D wants me to always watch what he is doing regardless of what it is. His new favorite thing to say is, "WATCH MOM!" over and over.

I was taking a bath, and locked D in the bathroom with me while I did so so I could keep an eye on him. During this process, D was very interested in his old nursing buddies (if you get my drift) and kept saying "Yummy!" "Yummy?" I asked him. "What did it taste like?" "HOT DOGS!" He replied!

D is a big help around the house. He puts things away when I ask him to, sometimes. He helps me fold the laundry, by that I mean he lays in the laundry. He is just a great help. One of his new things is to throw away his diapers after I am done changing him. After a diaper change this afternoon, he proceeded to pick up the diaper and head to the trash. His normal trash that he uses was out of reach, so I told him to go into the bathroom right off of the kitchen and to put the diaper in the trash right next to the toilet. I think all he heard from that was, "Put it in the....toilet." because that is where he put it. Like I said, very helpful! :)
