The answer would be no to both.
I know he is smart enough to know how to do it, but he just doesn't want to. In fact, sometimes he REFUSES to sit on the potty, even if we tell him he will get a marshmallow for doing so. (If he turns down something as wonderful as a marshmallow you know he is serious.)
I know he knows when he has to go, and that he very easily could go potty, but that doesn't really seem to matter.
This morning we went to the library for story time, and afterwards Deagan was playing with a box of animals that the story-time lady pulled out for the kids. I was sitting back watching Deagan play with the other kids, and over heard him talking to himself. He was saying, "Stay in poopy! Stay in!"
I asked him if he had to go poopy, and he responded that he did but he wanted it to stay in. And stay in it did!
If he has the control to hold it in like that, he has got to be ready for potty training, but I just don't know how to convince him of that same thing.
People say that the summer time is the best time to potty train since you can let your kids run around with no pants on, so we will see if summer time is our lucky time as well.

how old is he now? what worked for me with luc and lani because i was the one that had no desire to train either of them was to say at three bye bye diapers. so over and over again for months before i tell them "on your third birthday no more diapers." i check out about a book or video a week before hand about potty training. i just work it into the routine no big deal....and it took about 2 to 3 days for them to train starting when they were three. at lani's bday party she told me no more diapers mom and she refused to put them on after that. 3 might be late for some people but for me it worked
Oh Potty training... sigh. I had the hardest time with Logan and I am just now starting with kamryn. Of course the only days she wants to are not good days for me. Logan refused at first. He only would pee if I let him stand. It wasn't too bad either way it's a mess so he got that down VERY quickly. But then he out right refused to go #2 on the potty. It took a while a long while, but the most important lesson I learned is feed him food that will make him need to go. Sometimes that meant feeding him a can of mandrin oranges everyday but, whatever works. Good luck and don't stress it will happen.
we just got the best book that clark loves to read and sit on the potty with..."my big boy potty" & he also loves "Elmo's potty time"
