Kelly and Karissa's Visit

We were so spoiled in the month of October to have so much family in town! Shortly after my mom left, my brother Kelly and his wife Karissa came for a short visit. They were in Vietnam for a couple of weeks and made a pit stop in South Korea before they went home. They were only able to stay from Friday to Sunday, but I feel like we were able to do some much and see so much while they were here. We went to a museum, Dongdaemun to eat street food, a palace, a stream in the city, trunk or treating on base, and then we went out to dinner without the kids. It was a whirlwind of a weekend, but it was so fun! We are so grateful for their sacrifice of time and money to come see us! It was so fun to spend time with them. I just love them and am so grateful for them!

The boys loved having them in town and were so sad to see them go. They left while we were at church, and when we got home, Deagan went into the room where they were staying and cried. It was so sweet and sad.

We can't wait to see family again!

My Mom's Visit: Saying Goodbye

My mom left on a Monday in the afternoon. We spent the morning getting ready for her to go, which was so bittersweet. It was fun to spend more time together, but we both knew we would have to say goodbye soon. I don't like facing reality sometimes, so I just didn't bring it up.

We picked up the boys early from school so they could come with us. We finished up some last minute souvenir shopping she needed to do after we got them, then we went to the train station to catch the airport express train to the airport. The train was a super easy and convenient way to get there. If you get there 3 hours early, you can check into the airport there and then leave your bags there. We missed that cutoff by 10 minutes, so we ended up having to take all her luggage on the train with us. It was quite the site I am sure hauling 3 kids, a stroller, and a suitcase everywhere, but we made it!

Once we got there, we found where my mom needed to check in, and then she waited for over 45 minutes just to check in. Everything happened so fast from that point on. The next thing I knew, we were saying goodbye. It was so so hard to say goodbye. I don't know for sure when we will see my mom again, and that makes it so hard to live this far away. I love where we live and I love the life we have built here, but the distance is so hard sometimes. Thank goodness the invention of airplanes that allows us to get from one part of the world from the other!

I am so grateful for my mom and the sacrifice she made with time and money to visit us. The trip was so wonderful. There were several hiccups; my mom got sick twice and her phone broke, but I feel like despite those things, the memories we made together made it all worth it. I love my mom so much and am so grateful for the relationship we have built! Thanks for making the trip all the way out here to visit us mom!

My Mom's Visit: Banpo Bridge Rainbow Light Show

I wanted to take my mom the Banpo bridge where they have a light and water show overnight, but things just kept coming up. On the Sunday before she left, we walked over to the bridge after the kids were in bed. It was so fun to walk and spend one on one time together. Unfortunately the water show was canceled for the night because of high wind speeds. It didn't feel that windy that night, so it was a big disappointment to miss it. It was still work the walk though! We had a great time just being together.

These are the buildings from the Avengers movie. They look so beautiful lit up at night!

That tiny green light in the distance is Seoul Tower. I never realized until that night that you could see if from our neighborhood. I love how to other buildings framed it. You just can't really tell from this picture.

My Mom's Visit: Seoul Zoo

We loved the Seoul Zoo so much that we had to take my mom back there when she came. We had such a fun afternoon there! We have been twice now, and still have not seen everything there. It was a beautiful day!

My Mom's Visit: Seoul Temple

The last Saturday my mom was here, we got up super early to go to a 6 am session at the Seoul Temple. It was so fun to go there with my mom. I love this temple here, and it was fun to share the experience with her. It was an early morning, but so worth it! Before we got home, we stopped at a local bakery to have hot chocolate and baked goods. It was such a fun morning with my mom.

My Mom's Visit: Halloween Glow Party

The boys had a Halloween glow party at their school while my mom was visiting, so we stopped by for a bit. It. was. crazy. Their school has tons of kids in it, so it was a little overwhelming. Easton wanted to play and wander on his own, which was not because of all the people. He found a slide that he was going up and down on for a while, which kept him entertained for a bit. Once he started trying to explore much further, I called it good and we went home. :)

Our 9th Anniversary

Greg and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary while my mom as visiting. She offered to watch the boys while we went out to dinner that night. It was fun to dress up and go out on a week night. We went to Building 63 in Seoul, which has 63 floors. We ate at a restaurant on the 59th floor. It was a super fancy and super expensive place, and so fun to do on our anniversary. Most of the food on the menu was seafood, so in the end I feel like I spent a lot of money on bread and desserts.

I am so grateful for these 9 years that we have spent together. We have built a beautiful life and family, and I can't wait to see where life takes us next.

I was tired this afternoon, and I needed to nurse Kayden. I felt too tired to go pick up Kayden from where he was, so jokingly I asked Deagan if he would go change Kayden's diaper, nurse him, and then put him down for a nap.

He took it seriously, and said, "I have little boobies mommy! But do I have milk?"

Me: "No you don't have milk. I was just kidding."

Deagan: "But do I have water in my boobies?"

Needless to say, he did not follow through with what I said:)

January 6, 2009

*We went to Olive Garden for dinner tonight, and after the waitress brought us our breadsticks my son yelled after her, "Thank you lady!"

*My oldest loves to bring toys with him to bed. Tonight he had a couple of toy dinosaurs that he got for Christmas. The rule we have of bringing toys in bed is that the toys can't play, they have to sleep too. Tonight, he was having a hard time just letting his toys sleep, so I kept asking him to stop playing with the dinosaurs so he could go to sleep. He was getting really frustrated at me because of this and towards the end he started saying, "I am very mad at you!" It was so hard for me not to laugh at that.

He has done this for a while now, but whenever we are in the car he will ask, "Where are we going?" in a annoyed kind of voice. Later on he will ask really sadly, "Where did my house go?"

October 29, 2009

My oldest woke up really early this morning, and was whiny and impossible to please. At this point, I am dreading the day ahead and it is only 7 a.m. My oldest was sitting on his play table coloring and playing with his paint box (that was empty). He dropped the paint box, and began whining for me to pick it up. The conversation went something like this:

D: "Pick it up Mommy!"

Me: "It is right by you, you pick it up."

**Pause from Deagan**

D: "Michelle! Pick it up!"

I couldn't help but smile when he called me Michelle. Maybe this day will be better then I am expecting.

I think that wanting your privacy while going potty is a natural instinct that we are all born with and that develops over time. D is beginning to show signs that this privacy is a very important time when going to the bathroom. This afternoon I was making dinner and came in to the living room to check on him. As I walked into the room, he held out his hand and yelled, "No Mom! Go back!" I can always tell when he is done by him allowing me to stay in the same room with him.

D wants me to always watch what he is doing regardless of what it is. His new favorite thing to say is, "WATCH MOM!" over and over.

I was taking a bath, and locked D in the bathroom with me while I did so so I could keep an eye on him. During this process, D was very interested in his old nursing buddies (if you get my drift) and kept saying "Yummy!" "Yummy?" I asked him. "What did it taste like?" "HOT DOGS!" He replied!

D is a big help around the house. He puts things away when I ask him to, sometimes. He helps me fold the laundry, by that I mean he lays in the laundry. He is just a great help. One of his new things is to throw away his diapers after I am done changing him. After a diaper change this afternoon, he proceeded to pick up the diaper and head to the trash. His normal trash that he uses was out of reach, so I told him to go into the bathroom right off of the kitchen and to put the diaper in the trash right next to the toilet. I think all he heard from that was, "Put it in the....toilet." because that is where he put it. Like I said, very helpful! :)
